What damages can you claim?

It depends on the state what damages you may claim.

If you believe that you have been treated negatively in the workplace for a reason protected under the law, you may be entitled to damages under the law. Depending on the state and situation, you may be able to recover back pay, front pay, lost benefits (e.g., health insurance, vacation, sick leave, pension, etc.), amounts to compensate you for your loss or punitive damages (i.e., damages in an amount intended to punish your employer). In some situations, you may even be able to get your job back or get accommodations in your workplace.

What do you need for a successful claim?
In order to make a successful claim for workplace discrimination, you must (1) have been discriminated against in the workplace (2) for a reason protected under the law and (3) you must have damages related to that discrimination. If you have each of these three things, you may have a claim for wrongful discrimination and you should reach out to an attorney right away to protect your interests.
